The stress of finding the perfect gift can worsen your existing anxiety, phobias and vomit fears or even creating new ones. Don’t hide beneath the covers just yet, however, as a Wall Street Journal article can help kill off some of the gift stress with three simple tips.
The tips are simple enough to border on common sense, although one is actually a shift in a once-taboo trend.
Regifting is now OK!
Two additional tips come from Nicholas Epley, a co-author of a study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology. The study showed extremely thoughtful gifts do not necessarily result in extreme appreciation. Epley puts it another way in a quote he gave to WSJ:
“It turns out it’s not the thought that counts, it’s the gift that counts.”
And ready for his common sense insight number two? Here we go:
“The secret to being a good gift giver…is to give them what they want.”
Since regifting has become acceptable, you can also bet asking someone for a wish list of what they want is certainly fine – and yet another way to beat down holiday gift stress.
