Mother Uses Music, Prayer to Cope with Anxiety

Getting help from a licensed mental health professional is the best way for most people to deal successfully with their anxiety. A trained counselor can help people with anxiety conditions to learn strategies which can reduce stress. He or she can also assist clients who are dealing with underlying issues which may contribute to anxiety.

A mental health worker can also help the client to explain his or her anxiety to friends and family members who may not understand the emotional implications.

Some people who have problems with anxiety feel misunderstood and overwhelmed. Unfortunately, this can lead them to seek temporary relief through unhealthy channels. Addiction to alcohol or nicotine and risky behaviors can be a problem for some people who are unable to get the professional assistance they need for their anxiety. This is a major issue for children and adolescents who have anxiety problems. Their anxiety condition may not be recognized until they are much older, leading the confused adults around them to be unduly harsh or strict with them in their formative years.

A mother of three who has struggled with anxiety since she was a child turned to music and religion to cope. She has found that making music allows her to relax and even express how she feels about her lifelong struggle with anxiety.
